A menu of ways to support your local Liberal Democrats

Everyone can help — in different ways, at different levels, in different seasons of life.

  • Sign up to local Lib Dem emails
  • Complete the occasional survey or feedback form
  • Sign a petition or consultation response
  • Act as a “quiet sounding board” on specific issues (e.g. health, education, housing)
  • Make a small one-off or monthly donation

Use what you already know — no campaigning experience required.

  • Support with writing or editing leaflets, emails or social media posts
  • Support with designing graphics, posters or newsletters
  • Photography or short video editing
  • Helping make sure everything is as accessible as possible
  • Translation or language support
  • IT, website or tech support
  • Admin help (minutes, organising lists, logistics)

Helping locally without arguing about politics.

  • Deliver leaflets in your own area or somewhere else
  • Help at a street stall
  • Put up or take down posters for elections
  • Host a small coffee morning or living-room discussion
  • Introduce a councillor to a community group you’re part of
  • Share local concerns with a councillor
  • Support local campaigns on specific issues you care about

A bit more visible

  • Like or share social media posts
  • Write a supportive comment online
  • Wear a badge or sticker occasionally
  • Display a poster during elections
  • Write a letter to a councillor or MP
  • Write to a local newspaper or community newsletter
  • Attend public meetings or hustings
  • Help organise a community listening event

Campaign-time options

  • Address envelopes or prepare mailings
  • Data entry before or after canvassing sessions
  • Door-knocking with an experienced partner
  • Phone canvassing from home
  • Helping at campaign HQ (tea, admin, logistics)
  • Driving campaigners or delivering materials
  • Helping on polling day (telling numbers, shuttle runs)

Strengthening good representation.

  • Share local intelligence or community concerns
  • Help councillors stay connected to specific communities
  • Be a specialist adviser (e.g. SEND, planning, health, business)
  • Act as a trusted local contact point

Helping build the kind of party we want to be.

  • Help improve accessibility at meetings or events
  • Support wellbeing and inclusion initiatives
  • Mentor new or younger members
  • Support diversity and representation work
  • Help ensure neurodivergent- and disability-friendly practices

Optional — and not for everyone.

  • Help organise events or meetings
  • Join a working group or campaign team
  • Stand for a party officer role
  • Support candidate development
  • Stand for council when the time is right

You can start small and stay small — that still matters

  • You can change your level of involvement at any time
  • Quiet, behind-the-scenes support is just as valued as public activism
  • Saying “not right now” is always okay

How to Get Involved

Simply reply to a local Lib Dem email, speak to a councillor, or contact the Membership Officer and say:

“I’d like to help — quietly / behind the scenes / occasionally / in this specific way.”

You’ll be supported, respected, and never pressured.
